Game Directions
CONTENTS (Included with each game)
(1) Game Tote, (1) Island Hop Die, (13) Floor Markers (3 Airports, 10 Islands), and (15) Passports.
VERY IMPORTANT MUST READ: The die is very fragile and if handled with non-care it will puncture, usually on the seams. Please be careful with the die.
We recommend you hold the die with two hands by the sides, not by the corners which twists the seams. Also, use a dry erase marker on the passports while playing.
Dry erase will wipe right off after the game is complete, and they can be reused for years. Use caution while playing, let your players know, that the dry erase marker will
wipe right off on clothes or with hands while playing.
IMPORTANT GAME LINGO:
Island Hoppers (You, Your Family, Friends, Etc.) = Players
Markers = The circular Island Markers and Airport Markers.
Die = Yes, this IS the correct singular word for ONE die (as brutal as that sounds). "Dice" is plural (kids, this means more than one).
Travel Agents = Non-players as designated die roller(s), airport assistant(s), and passport checker(s).
NUMBER OF PLAYERS
There's no limit to how many "Island Hoppers" can play at one time, however consideration must be given to the size of the room.
For example 500 Island Hoppers in the family room might not be a good idea, so pile out and find a bigger room.
OBJECT OF THE GAME
Be the FIRST "Tacky Tourist", "World Traveler", or "Bon Voyage Extraordinaire" (Officially named an "Island Hopper") to visit all the exotic island destinations and get them checked off in your
passport. The first Island Hopper to get all 10 islands checked off wins and can claim to be "Island Hop Champ of Champs".
SETUP (Illustration below is the best recommended floor setup)
You need a designated playing area to place, on the floor/ground, all TEN (10) Island Markers, leaving enough room in between each of them for the quantity of "Island Hoppers" playing the game.
You also need a designated area for the (3) three Island Hop Airport Markers, (Skip 3 Turns, Skip 2 Turns, and Skip 1 Turn). Allow generous space between markers so no one is “floating around in
the ocean". The best setup is to have all the islands spread out in a large oval space and roll the die down the center, with the airport off to the side.
HOW TO PLAY (a very detailed FAQ can be found HERE)
On each turn (prior to die roll) all the "Island Hoppers", with their Passport in hand, choose any island they want to visit and stand at that marker. It DOES NOT matter in which order you attempt to
get the islands checked off in your passport. You're free to island hop to any island at any time of the game (unless you are stuck in the airport, of course). As soon as all Island Hoppers are at their
Island Markers, the "designated die roller" (Travel Agent) rolls the Island Hop die.
One of two scenarios will now occur. The die roll will show a pair of islands OR it will show "ISLAND HOP".
SCENARIO 1: If a pair of islands are rolled on the die, the tourist(s) visiting those islands are sent to the airport where their "flights are delayed" and they lose three turns. Airport Markers are
labeled "SKIP 3 TURNS", "SKIP 2 TURNS" and "SKIP 1 TURN". You would enter the airport at the "Skip 3 Turns" marker, and exit the airport at the "Skip 1 Turn" marker at the appropriate time, after
three turns. As if you didn't know by now, the airport is somewhere you DON'T want to be, but you will rarely be there alone.
SCENARIO 2: If the die roll lands on "ISLAND HOP", everyone visiting an island has to stay at their current Island Marker (in other words NO island hopping immediately following an ISLAND
HOP roll). ONLY the weary travelers leaving the airport, after losing three turns, may select an island destination and go to that Marker. As soon as everyone is at an Island Marker the die is rolled for
a passport checkmark. The roll following an “ISLAND HOP” roll, for the passport checkmark, DOES NOT count as an airport skipped turn. If islands are rolled, any Island Hoppers that are on those
specific Island Markers (two of them), that match the die roll, get a checkmark in their passport, ONLY for that Island they are on. If, after "ISLAND HOP" is rolled, the very next roll is also "ISLAND
HOP" instead of islands, the die must be rolled again until islands are rolled. IMPORTANT: The Island Hop Die has two islands printed on each of the five sides, and the Island Hop Logo on the sixth
side. You would ONLY get a passport checkmark for the island you are on after an Island Hop roll, and NOT both islands that are showing on the die.
IN CASE OF A TIE (OR MULTIPLE TIES)
The tied Island Hoppers each select an island to visit. IF you have five or fewer Island Hoppers that have tied, each one must pick a different island from each of the five sides of the die, and not on
one that matches up to someone else. The die is rolled and whichever islands are shown those Island Hoppers are out. The last one remaining on an island is the real Island Hop Champion.
